My theory: Don't paint what's there, paint what's not there...

Art by Art
My name is Art Gomez, born in California with Apache blood lines from Arizona... However, I have been a resident of the south for the past thirteen-years; starting in Augusta, Georgia and ending in Charleston, South Carolina. Now I’m in the Bay Area—waiting for the cable cars to return.
Though I toyed with drawing as a child, by high school that talent was shelved when I became a father at sixteen. In short, I never realized my art potential until my Army infantry days at eighteen.
Before going overseas, in my barracks, I created a caricature poster with color pencils that a high-ranking officer saw, which he purchased for his daughter. Although I offered the art piece for free, the officer handed me $35 and ordered me to take it!
After raising a family, I finally found the time to indulge more actively in my painting and writing passion. And although using a paintbrush has come naturally—with no art training—I'm still trying to discover my true forte...
My work has been on display in numerous venues in Georgia and South Carolina. Selling three paintings at my very first show in Georgia in 2011, the year I learned to use paints! My most recent show was at Charleston's City Gallery at Waterfront Park in 2018.
Besides this home-page, see additional photos on pages 2-5. You can also find some of my paintings on exhibit in Charleston, SC at ZIA; and Lexington, SC at Keg Cowboy Cafe.
As of January 2021, you can view my art in California, just south of San Francisco—in the heart of downtown San Jose: SPARQ’s lobby, on the corner of Reed and First streets.
Once this pandemic subsides, I look forward to unmask and display more of my paintings in the west coast. But for now, please check out my book debut that's getting five-star reviews on Amazon!
